About The School

Old Harbour High School had its inception on October 12, 1969 as what was called a Junior Secondary type school, then, new to Jamaica and funded by the World Bank.

Land for the building of the school was obtained at 33 South Street from Mr. Cecil Walker. Students aged twelve to fifteen years were enrolled and placed in Grades Seven to Nine. With a student population of just over one thousand, it had Mrs. Enid Golding as its first Principal, Mr. K. Heath as Vice-Principal and Mr. R.L. Grandison as Chairman of the first School Board. It was a one-shift school.

Having shown great promise and having earned the respect and recognition of the Ministry of Education and the World Bank officials monitoring it, before long it was made a Pilot School – one of three in the island – to undertake a number of specific projects, which it performed creditably.
